The Mercedes W163 was presented under the name of AAV (for All Activities Vehicle) in 1996 and is sold since 1997 as the M-Class. He was thus a co-founder of the class of sport utility vehicles like the ML320 Mercedes Benz.
The first major appearance took place in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park II.
The W163 was, as now his successor, built in the Mercedes plant in Tuscaloosa in the U.S. state of Alabama. The commitment in Alabama dates back to before the Chrysler merger. Among the vessels built in Tuscaloosa, it came at the start of production for Mercedes hitherto unfamiliar quality defects, the disposal of the advantage of low production in the factory was destroyed again. Due to the high demand for the model and the quality defects in the series start, a relatively small number of vehicles in Graz (Austria) at Steyr-Puch was manufactured. These vehicles were not even accurate, but the quality is substantially better than their American counterparts.
Although the model "M-Class" means the vehicles are under the name "ML 320 Mercedes Benz" (for example, sells ML 320 CDI).
